“Golden Duo”: Caitlin Clark and Kelsey Mitchell gain fan support as MVP talks gain momentum

The Indiana Fever has just released a new video celebrating guards Caitlin Clark and Kelsey Mitchell, both of whom are part of the 2026 WNBA MVP conversation.

“MVP² Caitlin Clark and Kelsey Mitchell, a backcourt duo unlike any we've ever seen before in WNBA history,” the caption of the X post, posted on August 27, said.

The video featured in the post began with the words “record setting historic unprecedented backcourt duo” appearing on a black screen, before cutting to clips of Mitchell and Clark on the court during Indiana Fever games.

The Fever’s August 27 X post then went on to list their achievements in the league, including top records for combined points, most career games with 30+ points, and their reputation as being the highest scoring duo in a season in WNBA history.

According to PFSN, the duo’s Fever teammates also contributed to the unique pitch, honoring both MVP candidates, with Fever guard Ty Harris pointing out that both Mitchell and Clark had shown MVP-worthy performances this season.

"I think they deserve it, both of them," Harris said, per PFSN. "I mean, nobody wants to be co-[MVP], but hey, I'mma throw it out there. It's hard for them, so it would be amazing just to have them [both honored] because they definitely deserve it."

Fans soon began expressing their support for the Fever stars as well, calling the Mitchell-Clark combo the “golden duo.”

Fans show their support for Kelsey Mitchell and Caitlin Clark’s MVP run

Fans flooded the comments section of the Fever’s X post, with some Fever fans agreeing with Harris and supporting both Mitchell and Clark.

“The golden duo ,” one such fan wrote.

Others pointed out that the MVP title was subjective. They wanted to reserve their opinion as the MVP was almost always chosen from the team that wins the championship.

“True statement , best duo. Season MV awards in any sport are fun yet subjective. It should be evident and the real MVP will be named in October from the league champion team,” they wrote.

Some others, however, believed that the two players should have received separate videos celebrating their season achievements, rather than being clubbed together.

“I see the heart but seperate videos next time pls. Not commingling their stats. Let KM have her own post honouring her historic 20pt run. And let CC have her own post w her offensive production historic stats. Thank you!” the fan wrote.

They felt that it was disrespectful to both Mitchell and Clark to have their individual achievements diminished by considering them as a combo.

“It really isn’t hard to create a separate promotional video for each of them. Not everything has to be about them being a duo. RESPECT CAITLIN and KELSEY! Respect every accomplishments they have individually and the hardwork they put in to achieved all of those!” one such fan's comment said.

But some fans felt it was hypocritical of the Fever to only celebrate Clark in conjunction with Mitchell. They pointed to previous instances where the Fever and the WNBA in general tried to sideline Clark.

“The Fever doesn’t promote CC unless it is in conjunction with KM,” one such fan claimed.

Others felt that since Clark’s MVP run was too strong to dismiss, the team was trying to thrust Mitchell into the limelight and edge the edge off of Clark’s season records.

“What are you talking about with MVP2? Caitlin generates nearly 10 points per game more than Kelsey. And the Fever win more games when CC scores more vs KM scoring more,” one Clark fan added.

In the end, who eventually wins the MVP title will become evident once the WNBA postseason begins. It is unlikely that league will choose two MVPs, but both Fever stars remain heavy favorites and have firmly cemented themselves in contention for the award.
