The 2026-27 SEC women’s basketball season will start with four coaches whose jobs are up for debate. Program history, player movement, and postseason performance have come together to make several jobs questionable even before one game is played.
What started with a viral 94 Feet WBB hot seat rating system has gotten people talking, putting four SEC coaches on the burn from Burnt to Cool Breeze in the lead-up to the November opening tip.

Burnt: Taylor's Rebuild Faces Its Real Test
Texas A&M: Joni Taylor begins her fifth year with a record of 45-58 overall and only 11-39 in the SEC, statistics that alone should have put her at risk.
However, a late-season surge made her case, including wins against ranked opponents Ole Miss and Tennessee, earning a WBIT #1 seed and giving the administration enough reason to give her another year.
Scorching: Caldwell Starts Over From Zero
Tennessee: Kim Caldwell’s second season proved to be disappointing in a very historical way, posting a record of 16-14 to set the program’s lowest winning percentage since the start of women’s basketball at the school in 1981.
The season ended with an eight-game losing streak before all the eligible players left for the transfer portal, forcing Caldwell to start fresh in recruiting 15 new players along with some changes in coaching.
Warm: Mississippi State's Uneasy Middle Ground
Mississippi State: Coach Sam Purcell is still the most successful coach of the program with 85 victories to 48 losses, but after last year's 5-11 SEC record, which was his worst conference record ever, his future seems uncertain.
However, there were some bright spots for the Bulldogs even during a bad season, as they upset No. 7 Kentucky at home and beat Tennessee away from home by 15.
Cool Breeze: Auburn's Patience Pays Off Early
Auburn: Larry Vickers starts his second year with the least challenging seat here after having posted only an average debut record of 15-17 and a poor SEC record of 3-13.
He provided one of the most significant upsets this season by defeating the 21st-ranked team in Alabama. He has recruited a total of eight players via transfer, two of whom have come from SEC rivals.
The season kicks off in 2026-27 with November 1 as the start date. With an increased number of teams in the tournament (68 to 76), the fates of these four SEC coaches could depend on March's outcome.
