"Foul baiting as much as SGA": Jason Whitlock Makes Surprising Caitlin Clark Comparison Amid Recent Criticism

The Indiana Fever may have secured a thrilling 114–106 overtime win over the Chicago Sky last Friday, but superstar guard Caitlin Clark still found herself at the center of the scrutiny. After Clark received a technical foul in the game, journalist Jason Whitlock stated that she is "foul-baiting" as Shai Gilgeous-Alexander does in the NBA.

Clark received a technical foul after Chicago's Azura Stevens stopped her driving layup attempt. She reacted to a no-call by swinging her arm in the air toward the referee, getting a technical. Whitlock criticized her for this moment.

"Caitlin Clark was a really hard watch yesterday. She’s untouched here, throws a tantrum, draws a tech. Her body language all game awful. Foul-baiting as much as SGA. Hard watch."

The comparison to Oklahoma City Thunder superstar Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has some context, too.

SGA has previously been criticized for foul-baiting. This regular season alone, SGA averaged nine free throws attempted per game, with the stat increasing to 9.9 in the playoffs, ranking second in the NBA.

Clark attempted 15 free throws in the game against the Chicago Sky, setting a season high for herself in free-throw attempts. She is also currently averaging 5.3 FTA per game.

With the stats in place, there can be some identical play styles seen in Clark to SGA's in the game against the Sky.

However, Clark was extraordinary in that game, regardless of that one technical foul, as she scored 32 points, gave 10 assists, and had seven rebounds in the game.

But how has she and her team been doing so far this season?

Caitlin Clark and The Fever Come Back To Winning Ways

After a bumpy start to the season, with the Fever winning just five games in the first 10, they now look to have finally found their rhythm. The Fever have recently won a game against the struggling Connecticut Sun, 85-75.

With their latest win, the Fever have improved their record to 8-5 and are currently on a three-game winning streak. Clark, on the other hand, has been a lethal component of the team, averaging 20.3 points, 7.8 assists, and 4.6 rebounds per game.

Not only her, but center-forward Aliyah Boston and guard Kelsey Mitchell have also been crucial for the team. Boston has averaged 17 points, 8.4 rebounds, and 2.7 assists per game. In contrast, Mitchel has averaged 20.3 points and 2.7 assists per game.

The Fever will play against the Toronto Tempo in their next game on Tuesday, June 16, at their home arena, Gainbridge Fieldhouse. Clark, along with her teammates, will look to grab their fourth straight win.
