Former NBA star takes aim at Angel Reese after recent WNBA loss

After the Atlanta Dream lost to Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever 95-91 on Sunday, former NBA star Enes Kanter Freedom, who wants to enter the 2027 WNBA Draft, took a direct shot at Dream forward Angel Reese.

Reese missed a possible game-winning putback with three seconds left in the game. Although she still had a strong game, finishing with 15 points, 14 rebounds, and six assists, the 11-year NBA veteran used the moment to send a message to Reese.

Enes Kanter Freedom wrote on X: “Sis! Once I go No. 1 pick in the 2027 @WNBA Draft, the first player I’m dunking on is Angel Reese.”

Kanter’s comment was only a warning because the WNBA has not yet approved his draft entry. Still, he made it clear that Reese would be his first target if he gets to play in the WNBA.

According to Andrew Holleran of The Spun, Kanter then took another jab at Reese, writing: “She’s the Paul George of the #WNBA. Just lean into the podcast already.”

His comparison was another way to criticize Reese. Paul George became well known for his “Podcast P” show late in his NBA career. Kanter seemed to suggest that Reese should also focus more on podcasting rather than playing.

Kanter’s comments were about more than one missed shot. They were part of his ongoing effort to create attention around his possible WNBA career.

Kanter’s 2027 WNBA Draft push continues

Ryan Anderson of the New York Post previously reported that Kanter declared for the 2027 WNBA Draft and challenged the league’s eligibility rules. He said the rules should let him play if he identifies as a woman.

“I’m simply asking that the current rules be applied equally to everyone, Kanter wrote on X, explaining his decision. “After careful consideration and reviewing the current eligibility guidelines, I’m officially declaring myself a @WNBA prospect.”

He also said that he was not trying to make fun of or disrespect anyone.

“I’m simply asking that the current rules be applied equally to everyone,” Kanter added.

Kanter is now waiting for the WNBA to respond to his draft request.

The New York Post reported that the league has talked about gender eligibility through its anti-hate task force. However, the WNBA said there were currently “no immediate eligibility matters” in the league.

Even so, Kanter continues to talk about his possible WNBA career. He has also joked about joining Caitlin Clark in Indiana.

For now, Kanter’s WNBA debut is only a possibility. But one thing is clear: he has already chosen Angel Reese as the player he wants to face if he gets the chance to play in the WNBA.

What do you think? Could Kanter’s comments spark a heated rivalry between him and Angel Reese? Let us know in the comments.
