There is a new three-point champion in town, but you'd never guess by looking at her expression that Azzi Fudd netted a historic three-point shooting contest.
This year's No. 1 overall draft pick recorded 30 points in the final round of Friday night’s three-point contest in the WNBA All-Star weekend, ousting Portland Fire forward Bridgeton Carleton.
But Fudd has her confidence high, as moments after the win, she said she’d welcome the opportunity to go head-to-head against Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry.
“Steph, if you’re listening, I’ve been trying to get a rematch since high school,” the former UConn Huskies star said during her media availability. "So maybe this is our time to figure out a time and a place.”

Steph Curry will probably go down as the greatest three-point shooter in basketball history, so it is a rather bold move for Fudd to call out the Warriors legend, who has had his fair share of three-point contests.
Most famously, Curry went against Sabrina Ionescu in a historic cross-league three-point contest during the 2024 NBA All-Star Weekend. Curry narrowly defeated Ionescu with a score of 29-26.
Fudd had a fantastic performance as well, missing only 6 out of 27 shots taken. “You say only missed six shots — that was, like, a lot,” Fudd said.
Fudd is the first rookie, and surprisingly the first player from UConn to win this event. She will walk away with $70,000 prize money.
Apart from Fudd, you could say there was a scarcity of top WNBA stars participating in the event, with names such as Caitlin Clark and Kayla McBride missing.
Caitlin Clark Reportedly Declined to Participate in Three-Point Contest
Both Clark and McBride were invited to take part in this year's three-point contest. But according to ESPN's Alexa Philippou, both of them declined the opportunity.
While it was reported that Sabrina Ionescu also declined, she later told reporters that she was just never invited.
"Whether it's against Steph Curry or in the W, I always go out and try and beat my record every single time I've gone out," Ionescu said. "So yeah, I mean I just kind of wanted to set the record straight. Like that was that was just false."
Clark previously had opportunities to take part in the contest as well. In 2024, she declined and prioritized rest. While she was about to participate in her sophomore year, she unfortunately had to bow out after suffering a groin injury.
This year, there has been no official reason for Clark's absence, but she is currently performing on a minutes restriction due to ongoing back issues throughout the season.
While Fudd adds another accolade to her resume, it would have been interesting to see her go against the cream of the crop the league has to offer in three-point shooting.
So, do you think Azzi Fudd would have still won if Caitlin Clark, Sabrina Ionescu, and Kayla McBride also participated in the three-point contest? Let us know in the comments.
