While Aliyah Boston secured her bags from both the Indiana Fever and her Unrivaled team, Phantom BC, fans didn’t hold back from putting her under some tough scrutiny.

“Aliyah Boston has signed a multi-year deal to return to Unrivaled, the league announced. Her team reached the finals last year,” Fever beat reporter Scott Agness’ X post read on August 28. “She’s currently in year 1 of a four-year EPIC contract in the WNBA…”

This April, Boston became the first WNBA player in history to sign a four-year, $6.3 million extension with the Fever under the EPIC contract. She just doubled the checks with the Friday Unrivaled contract, where she averaged 18.9 points, 9.7 rebounds and 2.1 blocks last season.

The 3v3 league, founded by WNBA stars Napheesa Collier and Breanna Stewart, is designed to offer WNBA players an earning ground during the offseason while playing at a high level.

On paper, Boston's move makes sense. But fans saw a different story.

Fans Criticized Aliyah Boston’s Move

Although Boston helped Phantom become the No. 1 seed, her 2nd season ended with a right lower-extremity injury. She sat out the 2026 FIBA qualifiers and couldn’t return for the Fever’s back-to-back games in early season. This fueled fan backlash over her offseason priorities.

“Aliyah Boston was injured in Unrivaled its past season. It is the Indiana Fever that has to treat her injury. Aliyah’s injury has been detrimental to the Indiana Fever. Can the Indiana Fever cancel Aliyah’s contract?” wrote a fan.

Another added, “She hasn't learned her lesson at all, for shame.”

What’s worrying is that her relationship with Fever star Caitlin Clark seems a bit off lately. She has played fewer games (36) and minutes (27.6) than last season (44 games, 30.2 minutes). Fans felt she should’ve practised with her team instead of getting back to Unrivaled.

“Instead of spending the off-season working out with Caitlin and the development coach so she can look like a max even though she’s getting an epic super deal, she’s going back to this gimmick league?” wrote one.

Fans even concluded that the Fever should trade AB at this point.

“Fever made her one of the highest-paid WNBA players; maybe Fever should think about trading her since she's at high risk of getting injured in the offseason,” wrote one. Another agreed, “Not surprised at all. Her chemistry with CC is gone. I hope the Fever trade her.”

With the contracts signed already, there probably isn’t much the Fever can do. But all eyes would trail Boston’s offseason nonetheless.
