Fever HC Fuels Caitlin Clark-Olivia Miles Comparison With Honest Take

Although the subject should’ve been the Indiana Fever’s latest 98-87 win over the Dallas Wings, Fever coach Stephanie White had a candid take on this latest Caitlin Clark-Olivia Miles scene.

“They know how to play,” White said during the postgame conference. “You have certain players who can run plays, are really good in drills. You can tell they did a lot of personal and professional development. While their skill set is elite, they also know how to play the game.”

White’s “they” included Clark, Miles and also Paige Bueckers, all in for an amazing season. Clark is leading the league in assists and is third in scoring, averaging 21.9 PPG, 8.3 AST and 3.9 REB. Miles has a 19.8 PPG, 6.1 AST, and 4.7 REB stat line, while Bueckers is on 20.5 PPG, 5.8 AST and 4.1 REB.

And per White, these young guards understand the game, can adjust their pace accordingly, can gel with anyone on the floor, and impact the overall game with their elite court vision. Something that means more than having incredible stats.

“They don't have to be told everything,” White added further. “They don't have to be hand-held. At the end of the day in this league, it comes down to players making plays, and all of them can do that. I think all of them have a great feel and understanding of situational basketball.”

So, whatever these comparison debates are about, certainly all of them have “maturity beyond their years.” And White wasn’t the only coach to have said it.

Minnesota Lynx HC Echoed the Same Sentiment

Before Miles’ entry, Clark and Bueckers dominated the league as young floor generals, playing both entertaining and elite basketball. The Lynx rookie has broken CC (29 games) and PB’s (28 games) records for being the fastest players to reach 500 points and 150 assists (26 games).

And Lynx coach Cheryl Reeve could clearly envision a great WNBA history repeating through Miles and Clark.

“We knew a time when we had (Sue Bird) and Diana (Taurasi) and that sort of thing,” Reeve said during the 2026 All-Star Weekend, per The Minnesota Star Tribune’s Cassidy Hettesheimer. “This next era of guard play, Caitlin Clark will be a big part of that. Olivia Miles will be a big part of that.”

Though Reeve skipped Bueckers, the Wings star is still very much a part of it. Rather than seeing it as a “this vs that,” the coaches are crowning the rising trio who’ll surely take the league to bigger heights.
