Others believed that suffering just to celebrate a victory was unnecessary, and felt that she didn’t have to indulge in the tradition.
“You didn’t have to do this,” they wrote, adding both laughing and crying emojis to express how the situation was both amusing and relatably painful.
Some others also found the experience relatable, empathizing with how painful the sensation could be.
“i HATE when i bust in my own face,” one such commenter posted.
Others simply found the clip hilarious, joking about the difference in her aim while shooting baskets compared to spraying champagne.
“Caitlin Clark might be able to shoot those 3-pointers with deadly accuracy, but shooting a spraying bottle of champagne is another story,” one such fan commented.
Another commenter focused on her amateurish handling of the champagne ritual, and was reminded of the fact that she is, in fact, a young player enjoying her first international win.
“It’s easy to forget she’s so young,” they wrote.
One fan joked that the experience was similar to the shenanigans that youngsters get up to when left unsupervised.
“Who left CC unsupervised,” they asked in the comments section.
Overall, fans found the scene both funny and regrettable. But most were kind and continued to hype up the Indiana Fever star, with many cheering for her performance, which contributed significantly to Team USA’s win.
