Fans call out Angel Reese for alleged flopping after controversial free throws

A single fall and a trip to the free-throw line turned into one of the most debated moments of an already heated Game 3 in Brooklyn.

Atlanta Dream forward Angel Reese drew sharp criticism during Game 3 of the WNBA semifinals against the New York Liberty after a sequence in which she appeared to fall hard and was awarded free throws.

A widely circulated clip posted by the account @HouseLowlights captured the moment and labeled it as Reese injuring herself by flopping, only to be rewarded at the line.

"Angel Reese injured HERSELF by flopping to the ground. And the refs reward her with free throws. The WNBA is a CLOWN SHOW," according to the post on X.

The sequence unfolded amid an already physical Game 3 at Barclays Center. The Dream entered with a 2-0 series lead and completed the sweep with an 85-83 victory, advancing to the WNBA Finals for the first time since 2013. Reese finished with 22 points and nine rebounds, continuing her strong postseason impact after helping Atlanta win the first two games.

Fans on social media argued that Reese exaggerated the contact or initiated her own fall. Reese and the Dream have largely brushed aside external noise throughout the playoffs.

The forward has focused on production and team success, helping Atlanta stay undefeated in the postseason. Still, the viral reaction shows how quickly individual moments can dominate the conversation in a high-stakes series.

Fans rip into Reese for injuring herself

The clip drew a flood of negative responses, with many fans broadening their criticism beyond the single play to Reese's conduct throughout the game.

Some argued her physical play and emotion deserved harsher punishment from the officials, especially after the earlier confrontations with Liberty players.

"AR has been yelling, hitting players; she deserves at least 3 technicals during the game," wrote one fan.

Others offered blunt, sweeping dismissals, reflecting how polarizing she has become among opposing fan bases during the postseason. Another fan wrote:

"She's literally the worst."

A few fans turned to wordplay to mock the free-throw call, suggesting the foul only existed because she created it herself.

"She got a me-throw for that me-foul," one fan joked.

Others used humor to point out how little contact they saw on the replay, implying the defender had barely touched her.

"It's that damn invisible player again!" another fan said.

A fan framed the issue as one of integrity and officiating bias, arguing that questionable plays keep getting rewarded.

"Angel is an unethical player. This isn't meant to be a personal attack, but Angel managed to pull off many dirty plays and continue to receive rewards from the referees."

Do you think the officiating in this series has been fair to both teams, or has the whistle favored one side too often?
