A roster decision regarding Chennedy Carter has taken everyone by surprise. The Aces just released one of the most efficient bench scorers on the team.
Seeing Carter’s performance this season makes this release unexpected. The official waiver took place on July 7, 2026. She joined the team on April 15, 2026, starting with a training camp deal before earning a spot.
This news spread through a popular update account on X called Underdog WNBA. The post stated, "Chennedy Carter has been waived by the Aces."
The decision shocked many fans because of her stats from the current season. In 13 games, she averaged 12.2 PPG, 1.8 RPG, and 1.3 APG. She was hitting 60% from the field, 52.4% from three, and 75.7% from the free-throw line.
She played all 8 games in May but appeared in only 4 throughout June. By July, she played very limited minutes, appearing in only 3 of her final 8 games before being waived.
The reason for the shift remains unclear. Coach Becky Hammon had previously called the reduced playing time an "executive decision," while some absences were listed as injuries and illness.
Reports highlighted the reduced role, concerns about her fit, and a May social media post in which she complained about her minutes.
Carter has not publicly commented yet, while several teams are already being mentioned by fans as possible landing spots.
The lack of answers turned a roster update into a debate online.
WNBA fans split over whether talent alone should have saved Chennedy Carter's roster spot
Fans were divided over the situation. Some believed her production demanded another chance, while others felt building a winning roster involves much more than just statistics.
One large group of reactions supported the team's decision. As one fan noted, "Everything ain't bout talent guys.. your character traits can be your downfall lol". Many felt that talent alone does not guarantee a roster spot in professional sports.
Another fan added, "Something had to be going on behind the scenes. Maybe it's her. Leading 6th man of the year to being cut makes no sense". This suggested there might be internal reasons the public is not aware of.
On the other side, many fans questioned the official explanation. One user stated, "I genuinely don't get it. One of the best players coming off the bench (would be a starter on any other team). I knew she wasn't 'sick' all those games".
One reply asked, "Why?? 12.2 ppg ain't good enough for the champs I guess." These reactions centered on her brilliant scoring numbers. Another fan questioned the strategy, writing, "Doesnt make sense to me, you could have atleast traded her and got something back in return?".
They believed the front office could have received value through a trade instead of waiving her outright. The discussion also had a lighter side regarding her next destination.
One reply joked, "Fever has the chance to do the funniest thing ever lol". Many jokingly suggested teams like the Indiana Fever or the Atlanta Dream could pursue her now.
While no confirmed reports are linking any team to her at this stage, the situation remains fascinating.
Where do you see this talented scorer landing next, or is this a sign of a career hurdle?
