ESPN producer names this WNBA icon as "generational' after recent win

A’ja Wilson has reached another major milestone in basketball history. Her latest achievement has also earned praise from ESPN producer Sam Block, who believes Wilson is a special talent who comes along once in a generation.

Wilson recently won the 2026 WNBA Most Valuable Player (MVP) award. This added another major honor to her successful career. Block praised the Las Vegas Aces star in a post on X. He pointed to her repeated MVP wins and said her success shows what a generational talent looks like.

He wrote on X, “2020 MVP… A’ja Wilson. 2022 MVP… A’ja Wilson. 2024 MVP… A’ja Wilson. 2025 MVP… A’ja Wilson. 2026 MVP… A’ja Wilson. This is what generational looks like.”

Block’s post shows that Wilson’s greatness goes beyond one good season. She has continued to perform at a high level and win the league’s biggest individual award. Her five MVP wins put her among a small group of players who have reached this level of success.

This is not the first time Block has praised Wilson. In July 2026, he called her “the best in the world” in another post on X. His latest message once again shows how highly he rates the Aces star.

Wilson’s fifth MVP award gives even more weight to Block’s praise. However, another big question remains. Can Wilson turn her latest individual success into another championship for the Aces?

A’ja Wilson’s historic MVP win comes with a playoff challenge

According to the report by Rodney Knuppel on Sporting News, Wilson became the first player in league history to win five MVP awards. She also won the award for the third year in a row after previous wins in 2020, 2022, 2024, and 2025.

The 30-year-old received 65 of the 74 first-place votes and earned 713 points. Minnesota Lynx rookie Olivia Miles finished second with 442 points. Indiana Fever guards Kelsey Mitchell and Caitlin Clark finished third and fourth, respectively.

Wilson’s numbers show why she remains one of the league’s best players. She averaged 26.2 points, 9.4 rebounds, 3.2 assists, and 1.9 blocks per game during the 2026 regular season.

However, the Aces faced a tough challenge in the playoffs. Las Vegas entered Game 3 of its semifinal series against the Golden State Valkyries with a 2-0 deficit. The defending champions faced elimination despite Wilson’s excellent season.

This situation adds more meaning to Block’s description of Wilson as a generational talent. She has already made history with her individual achievements. Another championship could make her legacy even stronger by showing how her success also helps her team win titles.

Wilson’s five MVP awards and three straight wins have made her one of the most successful players in WNBA history. Block’s praise reflects her ability to keep delivering at the highest level. She is not just enjoying a great run of form but building a legacy that could last for years.
