DiJonai Carrington’s Latest Status Revealed Ahead of Sky’s Next Game

Although Chicago Sky’s Friday night ended with a 73-70 win over the Golden State Valkyries and DiJonai Carrington’s injury absence, HC Tyler Marsh had an interesting, much-anticipated update.

"She obviously didn’t feel well enough to practice yesterday or to play today, so hopefully she’ll be back on Sunday,” the coach said on Friday, per an X post by Chicago State of Mind Sports on August 21, 2026. “But we’ll see."

The veteran forward debuted on July 30 this season following a lengthy recovery after a left foot sprain and two surgeries sustained last season. She’s averaging 10.0 points and 3.3 rebounds ever since. So, another injury report does sound concerning.

However, Marsh clarified, “No setbacks, just foot soreness from playing,” per the same post by Chicago State of Mind Sports. This also makes sense, considering she appeared in all 8 of the 9 games the Sky played in August so far.

If DiJonai returns for the Sunday matchup between the Sky and Indiana Fever, it'll mark their first meeting since the heated game on August 9, with Chicago losing 86-90.

And needless to say, Carrington was looking forward to it.

DiJonai Carrington Was Anticipating the Sunday Game

The Sky fans had more to be upset about on August 9 than the 4-point defeat. The crowd in United Center saw Carrington commit a defensive foul on Fever’s Sophie Cunningham. It was later upgraded to a Flagrant 2, resulting in her ejection.

This incident created quite the buzz on the internet, with heavy criticism being hurled at Carrington. However, it only fueled the 28-year-old's desire for a rematch with Fever. She posted “8/23” on X on August 9, the date of the rematch.

And the smiley face emoji did some heavy talking. Although No.10 Chicago is nowhere in the playoff picture, unlike the No.4 Fever, this will be one of the most sensationalized games of this season. That is only if Carrington gets the green signal to play.

ESPN hasn’t changed her “OUT” status yet, but if we go by Marsh's claim, we’re in for one great weekend.
