Cheryl Reeve Reacts After Olivia Miles Overtakes Caitlin Clark’s Rookie Record

It was another spectacular performance by the Minnesota Lynx on Thursday, as they beat the Golden State Valkyries to extend their season record to 8-2. The star of the game was rookie Olivia Miles, who broke Caitlin Clark's WNBA rookie record and was praised by the Lynx's head coach, Cheryl Reeve.

The Lynx won 87-84 against the Valkyries, and Miles broke Clark's rookie record for the most three-pointers ever scored by a rookie in a single game in WNBA history, scoring a total of eight. Following the game, Reeve had some praise for the rookie.

"The last few games, we feel like she's got opportunities to shoot the ball," Reeve said. "She's a good shooter … and so we had been trending toward her being confident to take shots. Once she saw a couple go down, it felt like she was playing Baylor again, I guess."

Coach Reeve was referring to an iconic moment in Olivia Miles' career with TCU this year, when she scored 10 three-pointers against the Baylor Bears on February 12.

Miles now also shares the team's record for the most 3s with veteran guard Kayla McBride. The 8-for-11 record was surely unexpected, as Miles was 2-for-18 on 3s this season before the game against the Valkyries.

Miles has now also scored or assisted 317 points in 10 games, falling just one point behind Paige Bueckers for the most in 10 games in WNBA history.

Miles scored a WNBA career-high 28 points in the game, along with dishing out seven assists, having four rebounds, and making three blocks against the Valkyries.

But what does the 2026 No. 2 draft pick herself have to say about her new record in the WNBA? Also, can the Lynx continue to flourish?

Olivia Miles And The Lynx Are On Fire

Olivia Miles has been in excellent form, averaging 17 points, 6.4 assists, 4.9 rebounds, and 1.5 steals per game so far this season. After another amazing performance, Miles reflected on what is steering her progress.

"It's just a testament to my mindset and my confidence," Miles said. "It's a lot of inner work to go and believe in yourself and constantly remind yourself that you deserve to be where you're at. The support that I have here to go out there and hoop and be myself, it just allows me to be comfortable."

With Miles' fabulous record, the Minnesota Lynx have won their sixth consecutive game in the season. They stand first in the Western Conference and the WNBA standings.

They will face off against the Seattle Storm in their next game, a team that has been struggling and holds a subpar 3-8 record this season.
