Cheryl Reeve drops truth bomb on Lynx locker room after Atlanta loss

The Minnesota Lynx faced the Atlanta Dream on August 30, 2026, losing81-89. And the Lynx head coach dropped a truth bomb about the team's performance during the post-game press conference.

According to an X post by Lynx beat writer Andrew  Dukowitz, Lynx head coach Cheryl Reeve pointed out during the post-game presser just which areas her team needs to improve in.

“We met a few of our goals that we had in the game. Take care of the ball, was a big one. And we did accomplish that and obviously turned them over, which was great,” Reeve explained. “I just think offensively they, for our offense, they were able to physically dictate in ways that we just didn’t respond well to.“

The HC went on to highlight where they scored better and which goals they did accomplish. However, Reeve admitted that the Lynx's offense fell short against the Dream.

“You know, we had some really good things defensively, we had 34 deflections and they only had eight offensive rebounds and they got closer to 11. Uh so there's some good things there,” Reeve added during the post-game presser, per Andrew Dukowitz’s X post.

But the HC believed that it was a good game for them and gave the Lynx an idea of what the playoffs may look like.

“I think it’s a good look at what playoffs are going to be. Freedom of movement is a thing on the first game of the year, it doesn’t become a thing in the playoffs. Physicality and reaching and grabbing, players cutting and chucking them and all that,” Reeve added. ‘This was a good game for us to sort of go “alight, this is what it’s going to be.’”

The Lynx HC's comments reveal the sobering reality of the team's current level and exactly how far Minnesota still has to go to make their playoff seed count this 2026 season.

What do the Atlanta Lynx’s WNBA projections look like this season?

According to the Bleacher Report, the Minnesota Lynx has cliched the top playoff berth in the 2026 WNBA postseason, with a record of 31 wins and just 8 losses. The team also has the advantage of entering the postseason with standout rookie Olivia Miles, along with veteran WNBA stars Kayla McBride and Napheesa Collier.

They are also favorites to win the 2026 championship, with odds averaging -115 to +100, per ESPN. A report by Respect My Region also suggests that Minnesota has the greatest chance of winning the WNBA 2026 championship.

“Minnesota is the clear championship favorite because no other team has combined regular-season dominance, efficiency and star power as consistently,” the report states.

However, the report’s analysis of the team’s weaknesses reveals two major concerns: player injuries and frontcourt depth, and the postseason format.

“Why Minnesota could lose: Limited interior size, reliance on Collier and Miles, and the pressure attached to being a heavy favorite,” the August 30 report stated.

It also touched upon how the first round of postseason being best of three, semifinals being best of five, and the WNBA finals being best of seven could upset their chances.

However, the overall verdict is that Minnesota is at an advantage, since the format makes it harder for opposing teams to push the Lynx into four defeats.
