Indiana Fever forward Aliyah Boston (7) reacts after a call Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2025, during Game 2 of a WNBA playoff matchup between the Indiana Fever and the Atlanta Dream at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.
WNBA legend Candace Parker believes a teammate is someone who shows up for the rest of the squad, regardless of the numbers they have put on the stat sheet.
In the latest episode of Post Moves, a podcast co-hosted by Candace Parker and Indiana Fever star Aliyah Boston, the two shared their thoughts after being asked, "What's one thing each of you thinks makes a great teammate that fans never notice?"
"Things that like don't show up in the stat sheet. You know when you just have that confidence that somebody on defence you know is going to be there, or like you know when you're on a screen and you know that they're going to get over it and they're going to get through it or whatever. That is something that I know is a great teammate because they know that you rely on them." Parker said.
"I also think it's having hard conversations. I think the greatest teammates have the hard conversations, are very honest and open." She added.
Parker has played alongside a plethora of legendary players during her time with the Los Angeles Sparks, Chicago Sky, and the Las Vegas Aces. Some of the notable names include Lisa Leslie, Nneka Ogwumike, Chelsea Gray, Kelsey Plum, and A'ja Wilson.
Parker knows what it is like playing alongside the best of the best the league has ever seen, so her assessment of a great teammate should not be taken lightly.
Meanwhile, Aliyah Boston aspires to have such high chemistry with teammates that it would not take long for them to understand what the other wants at any given point of the game.
"Knowing their teammates like knowing how to talk to your teammates, knowing exactly what your teammate needs in different moments. In some of my crash-out moments, KK is my girl." Boston said, giving props to Makayla Timpson for understanding her the best.
Having good teammates also means mutual agreement with each other to function better as a group, and Boston previously revealed the immediate conversation she had with the Fever locker room after their worst loss of the season.
Aliyah Boston Reveals the Fever Locker Room Conversation After Portland Loss
Nothing seemed to go in favor of the Indiana Fever against the Portland Fire. Even star player Caitlin Clark struggled, finishing with just six points and six assists.
Boston told Parker what the team talked about right after the 16-point blowout loss. Instead of discussing what they did wrong and what changes they can make, everyone on the Fever agreed that they need to “play better.”
“That’s kind of our conversation that we had just immediately after that game was like, ‘We just got to be better, y’all.’ There’s no excuse for that. There’s no adjustment,” Boston said.
The Fever is currently even on wins and losses with five each, as the quest to defend their Commissioner's Cup title continues.
Boston and Co. were one of the favorites to qualify for the playoffs the fastest, and are currently third in the Eastern Conference due to mixed results and performances.
The Commissioner's Cup is a great campaign to gain some momentum for the rest of the season, as well as defend their crown. The Fever go up against the Washington Mystics next.
So, do you think Aliyah Boston can rally her teammates to win the in-season tournament again? Let us know in the comments.
