Can A'ja Wilson Win the MVP Award Again? Reviewing the Aces Star's 2026 Stats

Four MVP awards. A statistic that is hers alone. And now, halfway through the 2026 season, A'ja Wilson does not seem inclined to give up the debate that she has dominated for almost six years now.

In a post on X, basketball scout EJayArrow assessed how far Wilson had come in 19 games this season.

In the first 19 games of the 2026 WNBA season, Wilson has put up averages of 25.7 points per game (highest in the league), 9.4 rebounds, 2.9 assists, 1.6 steals, and 2.0 blocks per game.

Wilson’s efficiency average is 29.2 (highest for all players), whereas she shoots at 52.4 percent field-goal accuracy and 40.9 percent from behind the arc. In light of a player who has game plans devised to counteract her, that is quite ‌impressive statistics.

Not only does the productivity speak to a possible fifth MVP bid, but the history that surrounds it does so as well.

Wilson is the new fastest scorer in WNBA history with 6,000 career points after having done so in only 278 games, surpassing the former record set by the greatest scorer of all time, Diana Taurasi, who had recorded 6,000 points in 291 games.

The statistics above are not only numbers but also an illustration of how consistently Wilson has been able to play despite her having to stay away from her comfort zone all along, even after earning back-to-back MVP honors. The 2025 season for Wilson saw her earn 51 out of 72 first-place votes.

In terms of heading into the 2026 season, the question has always been about whether she could do it, and not whether she had what it took. Instead, it was whether anyone could come even close to her. The answer thus far, according to the stats, is no.

If any one game was required to prove this, then Wilson had one just a few days ago.

A'ja Wilson Makes History Against the Chicago Sky

Wilson was not only the driving force that helped the Aces beat the Chicago Sky 107-99. Wilson scored a unique set of figures which included 30 points, 15 rebounds, four steals and three blocks in a single game, making her the first in WNBA history to record such numbers at once.

The player shot 8 for 14 from the field, scoring 13 of 16 free-throw tries, resulting in her getting 30 points and 15 rebounds in total.

That is, this was the 99th game in her career in which she has gotten 20 or more points and 10 or more rebounds, ranking second on the all-time list after Tina Charles (109).

Las Vegas took control of the game after the first half, scoring 30-19 over Chicago for a 61-50 advantage at halftime that they did not relinquish. Jackie Young put up 28 points and eight assists on 9 of 14 shooting, including four three-point shots.

Chelsea Gray scored 18 points and eight assists, while Chennedy Carter scored 11 points from the bench. The Aces are now 14-5 overall and 8-2 on the road, having won four out of their last five games.
