Caitlin Clark had a weekend that took her back to one of the most important places in her basketball journey. Just days after the Indiana Fever’s 2026 season ended, the former Iowa star returned to Iowa City.
Clark was part of ESPN’s College GameDay broadcast from the University of Iowa on October 3. She served as the guest picker for the Hawkeyes’ game against Ohio State. After spending the weekend with her former college community, Clark shared a short but emotional message on Instagram.
“Thanks for having me @collegegameday,” Clark wrote on Instagram. “A pretty special weekend in IC.”

The post showed her standing with the College GameDay crew in front of Iowa’s Old Capitol building. The popular show returned to Iowa City for the first time in 20 years. ESPN had Rece Davis as the host, with Kirk Herbstreit, Desmond Howard, Pat McAfee, and Nick Saban as analysts.
Caitlin Clark's short message showed why the trip meant more than just appearing on a popular sports show. Clark returned to the place where she became a college basketball star and formed a strong connection with Iowa fans that remains even after she left.
Her College GameDay appearance also gave her a chance to watch Iowa football from a different point of view. ESPN had picked her as the guest picker for the No. 14 Hawkeyes’ game against No. 5 Ohio State, making her return one of the biggest moments of the broadcast weekend.
That memorable Iowa weekend came right after a tough end to Clark’s WNBA season, which made her homecoming even more special.
Caitlin Clark’s Iowa return came after a strong WNBA season
The Indiana Fever were eliminated by the Las Vegas Aces in the first round of the WNBA playoffs on October 1.
Still, Clark finished the 2026 season with several individual highlights. She averaged 22.3 points, 8.3 assists, and 4.0 rebounds per game during the regular season.
Her playoff performances also showed her impact. In Game 2 against Las Vegas, Clark scored a playoff career-high 27 points and had 15 assists, helping Indiana force a deciding Game 3.
Earlier in the season, she was named Eastern Conference Player of the Week three times, according to Fever WNBA.
So, Clark’s Iowa weekend was more than a quick appearance after the WNBA season. It became a special return to the place that shaped her basketball story, allowing her to reconnect with the fans and atmosphere that helped make her one of the biggest names in the sport.
Her heartfelt Instagram message summed up that feeling perfectly: for Clark, this was indeed a pretty special weekend in IC.
