Despite the WNBA having different paths for them, Caitlin Clark revealed why partnering up with Paige Bueckers is one of the best things ever.
“it's really fun to play with Paige. I've grown up playing against and with her since a very young age,” Clark said of their FIBA on-court pairing on Thursday, per an X clip. “I think she's one of the best off-ball players in the league. She cuts really well, (and) she has a great feel for the game.”
Both No. 1 draft picks for their respective WNBA teams, Clark is averaging 22.5 points, 8.4 assists, and 3.9 rebounds this season. Meanwhile Bueckers is hitting 20.5 PPG, 5.9 AST, and 4.1 REB. Both have helped pushing their teams to the playoff berth (No. 5 Indiana Fever, No. 8 Dallas Wings.)

But the W league hasn’t been their only meeting ground. Starting with middle school AAU tournaments, Bueckers and Clark helped Team USA’s gold-winning run at 2019 FIBA U-19 Women’s WC. If anything, the chemistry is getting even better now.
“(It's) a very fun experience to be here,” Clark said per the same X clip. “I think our chemistry has been really good. And obviously (we are) just gaining more and more momentum through that as we go through the tournament.”
Interestingly, Clark’s statements wasn’t a case of a one-way traffic.
Paige Bueckers returns Caitlin Clark’s sentiment
March’s qualifiers in Puerto Rico let their on-court action do the talking, as HC Kara Lawson kept trying different lineups to figure out players’ compatibility and chemistry. Clark came back as the MVP, averaging 11.6 points and 6.4 assists, while Bueckers added 10.6 PPG and 2.2 AST.
Both were crucial in Team USA’s 5-0 hot streak and a first-class ticket to Berlin. This time Bueckers weighed in on the naturality of it.
“Honestly, we have great on-court chemistry,” she said, per the same X clip. “It's kind of natural and organic. It has been a while since we played together, but it's almost like no time has passed. With Caitlin, you want to run the floor, be a great wing, be a great cutter, move off the ball.”
This chemistry could be decisive in Berlin's medal rounds. But for now, China is the obstacle they need to overcome together.
