Caitlin Clark just gave the clearest explanation yet for the season she's putting together. Speaking in a clip shared by James Boyd of The Athletic, the Fever star pointed to one specific factor behind her turnaround.
"I feel probably the best I've ever felt in my career... It was battle for like the first 20 games for me to really find my confidence again, mostly in my body. Now, I feel like I'm just playing. I'm not thinking," Clark said during the presser.
Getting her confidence back after a rough stretch to start the year. That confidence, she explained, took time to rebuild because of how little of the league she's actually experienced.
"Obviously, your rookie year is a different kind of beast when you're trying to figure out the league and figure out where you fit on a team, and still do the things you can do," Clark said, as per the clip shared by James Boyd of The Athletic on X.

She also touched on how much her injury-shortened second season set her back. With so much of last year lost to injury, she's effectively only played about 80-plus career games total.
Clark admitted that limited experience can make her feel like she's still finding her place even though outsiders assume she's a seasoned veteran by now.
That's part of why the mental shift mattered so much. Once she stopped overanalyzing every possession and let her instincts take over, things started clicking.
Taking it play by play, without getting stuck in her head, is what she credits for unlocking her best basketball this season.
The turnaround is showing up everywhere
According to Ernesto Cova of Yardbarker, Clark dealt with a lingering back injury early on that limited her mobility and had her on a minutes restriction.
She's since put that behind her, dropping 34 points, 12 assists, five boards and three steals in a 111-91 win over Connecticut.
That performance extended her record for 30-10 double-doubles in WNBA history and made her the first player to do it in back-to-back games.
Clark is now averaging 22.5 points, 3.9 rebounds and a league-leading 8.4 assists per game, a sharp jump from the 16.5 points and 8.8 assists she posted before injuries wiped out most of last season.
She's scored over 20 points in three straight outings, including a 37-point night against Chicago.
With the FIBA World Cup ahead and Indiana's toughest stretch still to come, Clark finding her footing again couldn't be better timed for a Fever team that needs her at full strength.
