Caitlin Clark explains why Michael Jordan's competitive mentality stands out to her

Michael Jordan's competitive stamina has become an inspiration for athletes and non-athletes alike. When Caitlin Clark arrived for the Chicago Sky game at United Center, the Chicago Bulls legend's legacy didn't skip her memory.

Before the Sky vs. Fever game on Saturday, Clark spoke at length about the part of Jordan's game that she would want to inculcate in her game.

"What I admire about him is his competitive drive and mentality more than anything," she told reporters on Saturday, Aug. 8, in a video posted by ESPN's Kareem Copeland. "No one was going to get in his way."

Jordan's competitive stamina has its separate legacy in the NBA. Both his game and his physical gift changed over the years, but the 6x NBA champion's work ethic never changed, even when he was 40 years old.

"He was going to be the best by how hard he worked & the way he outworked everyone around him," Clark added in the video posted by Copeland on X.

While Jordan was with North Carolina, he told coach Roy Williams that he wanted to be the best player on the team. Williams had just one piece of advice: outwork everyone. Jordan kept that lesson intact throughout his illustrious career.

BJ Armstrong reveals why Michael Jordan worked hard in practice

Three-time NBA champion BJ Armstrong, who played four years with Michael Jordan, was one of the many witnesses to the Bulls legend's work ethic.

According to him, there was one particular reason that MJ worked very hard in practice because he believed in the result.

"He attacked practice with the same ferociousness, the same discipline," Armstrong told Colin Cowherd on 'The Herd' in May, 2019. "He was very mindful that he was going to transfer what he did in practice in the game."

Jordan often tried to outwork everyone during practice and played very hard because he believed that it would bring the best out of his teammates. It was one of the reasons the Bulls were so dominant in the 1990s.

However, Armstrong made a bold claim that the world never saw the best version of the NBA legend.

"The one thing I always say about Michael in my time spending with him is we didn’t see the best of Michael Jordan," added Armstrong. "He was as good as he was in the game; he was much better in practice."

Jordan's domination in the NBA was in proportion to his hard work on the NBA court and made him one of the greatest, if not the greatest, in the game.

His six titles, six Finals MVPs and five MVPs were results of the hard work that went on behind closed doors.
