Caitlin Clark drops 5-word message to fans while teasing new shoe colorway

Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark’s first signature sneaker, in collaboration with Nike, is launching in October. And she just teased a new Nike Caitlin 1 signature shoe colorway on her official Instagram account.

The Fever guard posted an Instagram Story on Wednesday, August 26, showing off a pair of the Nike Caitlin 1, with a simple five-word message for fans.

“Yeah these are the ones,” Caitlin wrote in the caption.

Clark added another video to her Instagram Story on August 26, in which she showed the shoes in more detail.

The pale pink shoes sport subtle yellow accents and fluffy shoelaces with multicolored beads. The toe box of the left shoe features Clark’s initials, ‘CC’, while the right has her jersey number, ‘22 ’, stitched on.

However, this is not the only colorway that has been revealed. Till now, she has revealed over eight different colorways for her signature Nike shoe, including a new teal variant, which was teased on Friday, per an August 22 Bleacher Report article.

For Clark, every color has a special message, representing the energy she wants to bring to the court when she wears them.

"I think it represents an aspiration and ambition," Clark said, during an interview with SLAM magazine. "And I feel like the shoe, when you look at it, has a lot of fire and spunk, especially with a lot of the different colors that we have coming out, and even with the first blue one and the yellow one. They're bright, they're powerful. So, I think that's kind of what I wanted to feel when I play in the shoe."

Her connection to the shoes doesn't end with the colors. Clark specifically chose to collab with Nike over other brands for a reason.

Caitlin Clark’s nostalgic connection to Nike shoes

Before she became a basketball star in her own right, Clark had been an avid basketball fan, with a penchant for good sneakers. So much so that she grew up wearing Kobe Bryant’s line of Nike sneakers.

Speaking to Jared Ebanks of SLAM magazine, Clark reminisced about how she would go online and customize her own KDs.

“I was always researching the next pair of shoes I wanted, and I was also always asking my parents for the next pair of Nike basketball shoes,” Clark told Ebanks. “I wanted all of them, and even when I was in college, I had every pair of Kobes or KDs.”

That was not all. During her college basketball years at Iowa, Clark signed an NIL with Nike. And according to ESPN, she signed an eight-year, $28 million contract extension with the brand in 2024 before entering the WNBA.

Now that Clark’s new range of Nike sneakers are set to hit the market, she hopes the shoes will give other fans, young and old, the same joy she felt as a kid.

Per Sports Illustrated, the Nike Caitlin 1 will have a retail price of $140 for adult sizes in North America and $135 worldwide.
