Caitlin Clark delivers heartwarming off-court news amid Fever’s WNBA playoff push

Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark spends most of her nights setting up teammates for open shots. But her biggest assist on Monday had nothing to do with basketball.

The Fever superstar launched a new hospital initiative called 'Turning Pages, Healing Hearts' through the Caitlin Clark Foundation.

"We are honored to be bringing our new program, Turning Pages, Healing Hearts, to local hospitals!" the foundation wrote in its Instagram announcement.

The program, developed by Caitlin Clark Foundation in partnership with Scholastic, centers on a small but meaningful choice. Per the foundation's August 18 Instagram post, participating hospitals receive a custom book vending machine stocked with funny titles.

Instead of simply being handed a book, pediatric patients receive special tokens so they can walk up and pick out whichever story catches their eye.

What's more, every book has a personal encouragement note from Caitlin herself. The rollout also includes arts and crafts stations and what the foundation is calling a 'joy finder'.

These activities give young patients, their brothers and sisters, parents, and hospital staff a chance to laugh and bond together outside of medical routines.

Clark re-posted the foundation's announcement on her Instagram Story, writing, “So excited about our newest program 💛🩶🥺.”

Clark launched the Caitlin Clark Foundation in October 2023 in her hometown of West Des Moines, Iowa, to uplift young people and strengthen communities through education, nutrition, and sports access.

Since its launch, the foundation has partnered with Gatorade, State Farm, and Hy-Vee to support children.

The latest 'Turning Pages, Healing Hearts' program has already arrived at Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital in Indianapolis.

On Monday, it expanded to the University of Iowa Health Care Stead Family Children’s Hospital in Iowa City. And later this month, it will open at UnityPoint Health in Des Moines, Iowa.

This heartwarming hospital news comes right as Clark and the Indiana Fever are playing some of their best basketball of the season.

Clark’s big impact drives Indiana’s playoff push

The three-time All-Star guard is averaging 22.0 points, 8.3 assists, and 3.9 rebounds per game this season. Clark currently ranks third in the league in scoring while leading the entire WNBA in assists.

Clark’s playmaking was on full display in Indiana’s dramatic victory over Angel Reese and the Atlanta Dream on Sunday, according to Chicity Sports.

The Fever erased an 18-point deficit to force overtime, pulling away for a thrilling 95-91 win. Clark led the team with 26 points, nine assists, three rebounds, and three three-pointers.

It was Indiana’s fourth straight win and their ninth victory in their last 11 games. With that, the Fever are sitting atop the Eastern Conference standings (23-12) with only 9 games remaining in the regular season.
