Caitlin Clark and Kelsey Mitchell Earn Another WNBA Record

Caitlin Clark and Kelsey Mitchell have quickly formed one of the best backcourt partnerships in recent memory, and the statistics speak for themselves.

Following the 90-86 win against the Chicago Sky, Clark and Mitchell became the backcourt duo with the most 25-point games in league history, according to Polymarket Hoops.

The Indiana Fever now extend their record to 20-12 for the season, as Clark and Mitchell have been the cornerstones of all the success Stephanie White's squad has achieved this season.

Clark is averaging 21.5 points, 8.0 assists, 3.9 rebounds, and 4.7 turnovers per game. She is shooting 44.1% from the field and 34.1% from the 3-point range.

Meanwhile, Mitchell is putting up 24.1 points, 2.7 assists, 1.5 rebounds, and just 1.8 turnovers per game. The veteran guard is shooting an impressive 50.4% from the field and 43.9% from 3-point range.

On an average gameday, the duo accounts for more than half of the Fever's points scored and has helped the Fever gain the reputation of the best offensive team in the league.

Both players have been on a roll and come at the top of the WNBA scoring charts this season. But with the recent conversations surrounding who the MVP will be, a comparison between Clark and Mitchell was bound to occur.

The latest personality to opt for one over the other was none other than ESPN's Stephen A. Smith.

Stephen A. Smith Picks Kelsey Mitchell Over Caitlin Clark

Clark is having her best season in the WNBA yet and is often considered their biggest draw. While that is true, Smith is not so sure about Clark's position as the Fever's best player, as he gave that tag to Mitchell.

"I'm a fan of Caitlin Clark, but the best player on the Indiana Fever is Kelsey Mitchell. It's time we acknowledge that perfectly. That's not disrespect to Caitlin Clark; she can play. … She's more efficient from the field, she's more efficient from 3-point range, she protects the ball better," Smith said on ESPN's First Take on Friday.

Smith also pointed out that White usually turns to Clark whenever the Fever needs a tough basket or a buzzer-beater, even if Mitchell is more poised to make the shot than Clark.

While Smith is statistically correct, the difference is not as big as he states. In addition, Clark's playmaking abilities are among the best in the league, sitting second in the league's assists chart.

Needless to say, rather than framing it as Clark against Mitchell, the conversation should be around the Fever having the most dangerous backcourt duo in the WNBA today.

Indiana’s real advantage is having two elite offensive weapons, and Stephanie White has the luxury of choosing between Clark’s playmaking and Mitchell’s efficiency depending on the situation.

And if the duo does stay consistent, the MVP honor will likely come to Indiana, be it Clark or Mitchell.

So, with Clark and Mitchell as the backcourt duo, do you think the Fever can go all the way this season? Let us know in the comments.
