Indiana Fever phenom Caitlin Clark’s list of haters and doubters is no joke. However, legendary sports broadcaster Linda Cohn had her back with just 3 words.
“I don't think that you can make a compelling argument that Caitlin Clark is a top-four guard in the WNBA. Like, nobody can,” Andscape’s senior writer David Dennis Jr. stated at ESPN’s first take around early July. Cohn reposted the clip on August 30, captioning, “Need a laugh?”
For the guard who leads the league in assists (8.4) and ranks 3rd in scoring (22.5), trailing only Fever teammate Kelsey Mitchell (25.0) and Las Vegas Aces star A’Ja Wilson (26.0), Dennis stated Clark ranks 11th among other WNBA guards at that time.

He even upgraded his statement slightly on August 2, without backing off from the initial claim, via Linda Cohn's X post on August 30.
“I think I’d put CC #4 right now,” he posted on X. “Paige, Olivia and Kelsey are all still above her, and there’s not really any way I’m coming off that right now. CC is still in the tier right below, and these next few weeks of games against some tough comp can maybe elevate her some more. We’ll see.”
However, Clark surpasses Bueckers (No. 6, 20.5 PPG) and Miles (19.7 PPG) in scoring, in assists (Miles 6.0, Bueckers 5.9), and has the 2nd-highest usage percentage in the league (30.9), only next to Wilson (32.0). So, Cohn could only laugh.
And this isn't the only time she has done it.
Linda Cohn had a similar reaction to analyst Zena Keita
In a June episode of No Offseason: The Athletic Women’s Basketball Show, Keita claimed that having Clark benched more often would be beneficial, as the guard has become bigger than the program and needs an external change.
“I’m just giving you an example of, like, a canon-type event that would need to occur for Caitlin to be like, ‘Oh, I am not the birthday’… ‘I am not the main event. I am a member of a team,’” she stated. “And I think it’s a really great take.”
Reposting this on August 30, Cohn wrote, “Makes perfect sense to those who make ridiculous observations.”
Clark's production has certainly given her fans plenty to point to, but the debate over where she belongs among the WNBA's elite guards is far from over.
For now, Cohn has made her position clear. And with the season still unfolding, there will be plenty more rankings, opinions and, presumably, reactions to come.
