Being a former standout college basketball player himself, Tim Fudd, Azzi Fudd's adoptive father, must be on cloud nine after her daughter became the first rookie in WNBA history to win the All-Star three-point contest.
Tim was the first coach Azzi ever had, having spent over two decades coaching at the grassroots, high school, and collegiate levels.
Following Azzi's victory in the championship round, 30-19 against the Portland Fire's Bridgeton Carleton, Tim showcased how proud he was of his daughter in a video posted by the WNBA.
"Yes, I got nervous. First time ever. I usually trust the work. It's amazing, it's all surreal. But this is her element, so happy to see it. I told her before she left the hotel to just lock in." Tim said.

Apart from being the first rookie to win the three-point contest, Fudd was also the first player from UConn to receive this award, which is surprising considering the program's lineage. Regardless, Geno Auriemma would be a proud head coach.
“It was shock. That’s crazy,” Fudd said. “To be the first is definitely an honor.”
Moreover, Fudd's 30 points in the final round are also the most a rookie has ever scored in a single round of the contest. She beats the previous record held by Rhyne Howard, who put up 24 in the opening round in 2022.
Following her victory, Fudd also credited the coaching staff and the interns who helped her figure out how to work through the format in only a couple of practice sessions due to limited time.
As the No. 1 overall draft pick and now the three-point contest winner, Fudd was feeling pretty confident in herself. So much so that she even wanted to have a go against the Golden State Warriors' Steph Curry.
Azzi Fudd Calls Out Steph Curry as Her Next Opponent
Steph Curry has previously participated in a three-point contest against a WNBA player, that being Sabrina Ionescu, who was reportedly not invited this time around.
With Fudd breaking the rookie three-point record, she said she’d welcome the opportunity to go head-to-head against the Warriors legend, who is probably the greatest three-point shooter of all time.
“Steph, if you’re listening, I’ve been trying to get a rematch since high school,” the former UConn Huskies star said during her media availability. "So maybe this is our time to figure out a time and a place.”
But Fudd did not win the contest by luck, as she has shown her shooting prowess from beyond the arc since her college days at UConn. So yes, it will be interesting to see Curry and Fudd go at it, with their careers on different ends of the spectrum.
So, do you think Azzi Fudd can topple even the greatest in Steph Curry? Let us know in the comments.
