Azzi Fudd was the first overall WNBA draft pick, and she has already broken records on offence and defence for the Dallas Wings in just 14 games played.
It was instantly recognised. The numbers had already begun to appear, and the Real App confirmed this on X.
"Azzi Fudd becomes the fastest player in Wings history to reach 20+ STL & 20+ 3PM," Real App posted.
She is now sitting at 24 three-pointers and 21 steals, having hit that record in just 14 games. Fudd, who was still getting her bearings in her first season as a professional, accomplished it more quickly than any other Wings player.
Fudd set a new franchise record with five steals in a game against the Golden State Valkyries; the Valkyries' entire team managed only four steals. Playing defence like that as a rookie guard is unusual at any level.
Her 3-point ability adds another dimension. Fudd set a Wings rookie record by making six three-pointers in a game against the New York Liberty earlier this season, scoring 24 points. The range and shot-making were always there; consistency is catching up.
On that particular night, despite shooting 46% from the field and 48% from beyond the arc, the Wings were nonetheless defeated by the Valkyries, 80-91. Fudd shot 4-of-13 from the field and 2-of-5 from three, a poor offensive night.
From that loss, Dallas now faces a home game that might help them recover and gain momentum.
What's Next for the Dallas Wings
In a matchup that looks to be going Dallas' way, the Wings (9-5) will face the Chicago Sky (4-9) on Saturday, June 20, at 7:00 PM CT at College Park Center in Arlington, Texas.
The Wings are 112.0 points per game and third in the Western Conference. They average a six-point advantage over their opponents.
When compared to the Wings' 87.8 defensive points per game, Chicago's sixth-place Eastern Conference ranking makes them an easy target for the Wings' offence.
On the court, Dallas's Paige Bueckers is a menace with 18.3 points and 6.2 assists per game, while Jessica Shepard rules the glass with 11.4 rebounds per game.
On the other side, the Sky's rookie Kamilla Cardoso adds 1.8 blocks per game to the paint, and Skylar Diggins adds 15.2 points per game as counters.
The result of Saturday's game at College Park Center may matter more than it appears because Dallas will be heading out on a road stretch after this home game, where they will face the Seattle Storm and the Las Vegas Aces.
