While the Angel Reese Vs. Caitlin Clark narrative stays hot in the W League, a recent highlight indicated that the FIBA audience is getting something else in Berlin.
“This is cute. CC and Angel (are) checking in at the same time. CC in a rush, and Angel tells her to wait for the buzzer,” a fan took to X as official broadcasting caught the moment, following Team USA’s staggering 94-61 victory over China.
The video captured Reese and Clark watching the game from the bench when Clark is called in as a substitute. However, a substitute cannot enter the court before the referee officially beckons them with a buzzer. Doing so earns the player a technical foul.

Clark almost earned hers. But Reese stepped in at the right moment, gesturing to CC to get back to her seat, which the Indiana Fever guard immediately did. Albeit small, this gesture stopped the WNBA trend from reaching Berlin.
Had CC, who has been tangled in officiating trouble throughout this W season, got into another and blemished her international resume, China would’ve earned free throws and ball possession. With 7’5 Zhang Ziyu by their side, you don’t want to give them any advantage.
Moreover, this moment of camaraderie only reiterated what both of them have said in the past.
Mutual respect between Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark
Their competitive fire has kept the WNBA hardwood warm, where both Reese and Clark almost got their 8th tech of the season (rescinded later). In mid-August, they got in foul trouble with each other during a Fever vs. Atlanta Dream matchup. But what happens on the court stays on the court.
“I don't think people realize it's not personal,” Reese told ESPN’s Andrea Adelson in 2024. “It's just a super-competitive game. But after the game, we can kick it.”
And Clark agreed.
“There's definitely that competitive fire," she said, as per the same ESPN piece. "Both of us want to win more than anything … I think that's the main similarity is how competitive we are.”
