Angel Reese Reaches Historic Double-Double Milestone That Even Most NBA Stars Never Matched

Angel Reese has dominated the record books since the day she entered professional basketball. Her latest performance gave the league yet another reason to recognize her exceptional talent.

Reese had one of her best games of the year on Saturday when Atlanta defeated the Washington Mystics 109-77. She finished with 18 points, 17 rebounds, four steals, a block, and a perfect 10-for-10 from the free throw line.

After that performance, she became a member of an exclusive group. According to ESPN Stats, Reese is currently one of just four basketball players in the WNBA and NBA combined to have recorded 50 or more double-doubles in their first 75 professional games.

Her presence in that group contributes to the milestone's complete context. Blake Gryphon, a former NBA Rookie of the Year with the record of 57 double-doubles in his first 75 games in 2010 with the Los Angeles Clippers, was just one double-double from Reese before Saturday's game.

She is currently averaging 11.7 rebounds per game this season, set the league's single-season rebounding record as a rookie, and is the fastest player in WNBA history to reach both 300 and 900 career rebounds.

This record-breaking run has now resulted in one of the most emotionally charged WNBA matchups of the season, as Reese returns to the city that let her go.

Angel Reese Returns to Chicago as Atlanta Dream Face the Sky

There is a plot on Tuesday night that goes far beyond the records. Reese enters Wintrust Arena to take on the team that selected her, suspended her, and eventually let her go in exchange for two more first-round picks.

Speaking about her relationship with Dream head coach Smesko, Reese told reporters, "I think just being able to sit with someone that really works with you. He continues to trust and believe no matter how many shots I miss."

She added, "He told me from the beginning I need to be patient and give myself grace."

And that trust has carried right over to the floor. Atlanta leads the WNBA in steals (9.4 per game) and offensive rebounds (11.4 per game), going into Tuesday at 7-3. Chicago is 4-7, has the lowest rebounding percentage (45.7%), and will be without both DiJonai Carrington and Courtney Vandersloot.

How do you think Reese will do against her old team Tuesday night? Comment below.
