"Angel Reese effect": Atlanta Dream fans have plenty to say about team’s latest move

The Atlanta Dream's announcement of a multi-year agreement to play all home games at State Farm Arena beginning in 2027 has generated strong reactions from fans, many of whom see the move as validation of the franchise's recent growth.

On Tuesday, the team confirmed it will leave Gateway Center Arena in College Park, its longtime home with a capacity of roughly 3,500, and move permanently to the downtown venue that seats about 17,000.

“Press Release: ATLANTA DREAM ANNOUNCES MULTI-YEAR AGREEMENT TO PLAY ALL HOME GAMES AT STATE FARM ARENA,” stated a post by Atlanta Dream PR on X.

Dream president and COO Morgan Shaw Parker called the deal the start of an "exciting new chapter," noting the organization has seen a 400% increase in season-ticket members over the past five years and has already sold out State Farm Arena multiple times for select regular-season and playoff games.

The announcement, as posted by Atlanta Dream PR on X, landed in the middle of a deep playoff run, which only intensified the conversation around it. The Dream entered the 2026 postseason as the No. 4 seed, swept the Washington Mystics in the first round, and took a 1-0 lead over the New York Liberty in the semifinals.

Angel Reese's arrival and subsequent Defensive Player of the Year award, combined with the midseason addition of veteran DeWanna Bonner, have fueled both on-court success and a significant rise in visibility.

The Dream had already tested the larger market by moving several 2026 regular-season games and both rounds of home playoff contests to State Farm Arena. Those experiments produced sold-out or near-capacity nights against high-profile opponents, proving Atlanta can support a higher volume of fans when the product on the floor is competitive.

Fans react to the new deal

Social media responses reflected a mix of celebration and pointed commentary. Some fans credited the roster upgrades, particularly Reese, for creating the demand that made a full-time move to the larger arena viable.

“The Angel Reese effect."

One fan, however, noted the contrast with earlier seasons, when the team struggled to even fill the smaller Gateway Center.

“All home games at State Farm Arena is a real b** on this group filling a big room. Think they sell it out opening night?

Some reactions were straightforwardly enthusiastic about the franchise's growth, with fans expressing pride in the organization's trajectory.

"I love this move, Atlanta," one comment read.

Others remained skeptical specifically about whether one player's popularity could sustain an arena of that size long-term.

"But can Reese really sell out the arena?" another fan asked.

And some fans kept their reaction simple, directing their gratitude straight at the player they see as responsible for the shift.

"Thank you, Angel Reese."

Do you think the Dream can consistently fill State Farm Arena once the playoff excitement fades?
