Safe to say that Angel Reese is enjoying her first season with the Atlanta Dream, and defeating longtime rival Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever in back-to-back contests is the icing on the cake she very much needed.
Historically, Clark always got the better of Reese in head-to-head matchups since the old college foes went pro. In the Fever's first meeting against the Dream, Clark extended her record to 5-1 against Reese.
But the Bayou Barbie has flipped the script in the last two meetings and has done her part in the victories. In addition, she also became the fastest player in WNBA history to record 1,000 rebounds.
Naturally, some celebration was needed after two big victories against the most popular WNBA team. Reese took to Instagram stories and extended her love to her new teammates with a photo of them together. "Literally love my gang" she captioned.
This is an important revelation, as Reese faced issues over the two years she spent with the Chicago Sky, from publicly criticizing the franchise's roster construction to a clash with the front office.
Reese eventually got suspended for a short time as well, which acted as a catalyst for her subsequent trade to the Atlanta Dream this season. However, reports suggested that Reese actually did not request a trade.
Still, moving to the Dream has given Reese a better opportunity to qualify for the playoffs for the first time in her WNBA career. The Dream is currently 11-4 for the season, as compared to the Sky's 4-11 record.
While Reese has definitely upped her game since moving to the Dream, she would not have reached this step without the help of her All-Star teammates.
Angel Reese Has the Support of the Atlanta Dream
Taking an example of the back-to-back contests against the Indiana Fever, all five Dream starters scored in double digits.
Apart from Reese, the Dream also has All-Star players in Allisha Gray and Rhyne Howard, which has in turn afforded Reese to play to her strengths.
And she displayed those strengths to perfection against the Fever, having 18 points and 8 rebounds in the most recent win, which comes after she put up 21 and 11 in the previous victory.
Overall, Reese finding herself in better circumstances than last year has not only done wonders for her rivalry against Clark but is also on course to reach the playoffs for the first time in her WNBA career.
So, do you think Angel Reese has a genuine opportunity of competing for the WNBA championship in her first season at the Dream? Let us know in the comments.
