The Atlanta Dream won against the Toronto Tempo 102-77 on June 14, but not before a huge disruption in the third quarter. Dream forward Angel Reese and Toronto forward Isabelle Harrison went head-to-head, even leading to an ejection.
Four minutes into the third quarter, Reese received the ball in the paint. Harrison then pulled Reese to the ground with her and was ejected after the referee changed the common foul decision to a Flagrant 2. Sports Illustrated writer Grant Young elaborated on the exchange on June 14 in an X post.
"Angel Reese and Isabelle Harrison were going at each other long before the slam and ejection. That’s what made this moment so interesting, especially Reese’s reaction."
The Dream were leading 47-39 going into the third quarter, before the exchange occurred. Reese was seen standing immediately and exchanging words with Harrison. She was emotional after the incident happened, and tried to hold back her tears.
Young spoke about how we have seen many such instances of players scuffling and ranting at their opponents, but Reese's tears raised questions. She herself has also received three technical fouls already this season.
Reese and Harrison were teammates on the 2024 Chicago Sky, Reese's rookie year with the Sky. Playing together for the 2024 season, both players know each other well. The on-court physicality, leading to the flagrant foul, caused both former teammates to have extreme reactions.
This could potentially be why Reese got emotional after the exchange, but still ended up recording a career-high 11 offensive rebounds.
Reese was traded by the Sky to the Dream before the start of the 2026 regular season. As for Harrison, she found her place in the expansion team, Toronto, after two seasons with the Sky.
Although the two former teammates have left their previous team, Reese is thriving in Atlanta; Harrison seems to have improved her stats in expansion Toronto.
Angel Reese and Isabelle Harrison So Far This Season
In the game that also called for Harrison's ejection, Reese scored 15 points, had 17 rebounds, while adding one assist, one block, and one steal in the 102-77 win over the Tempo.
She has been averaging 14.6 points and 3.2 assists, and ranks first in rebounds per game at 12.3.
On the other hand, Harrison has been averaging 11 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 1.8 assists per game in the four games she has played this season. Last season, she averaged 4.9 points over the course of 34 games.
Both players' teams are currently on different paths as well. The Atlanta Dream are fourth overall in the league standings, while the Toronto Tempo are struggling at ninth.
While the Dream continues to play in fine form, holding a 9-4 record, Toronto has struggled with a 7-7 record.
The Tempo and the Dream will both play the Indiana Fever next on Tuesday, June 16, and Thursday, June 18, respectively.
