Alyssa Thomas Offers Honest Assessment of Mercury After Liberty Defeat

Alyssa Thomas issued a blunt wake-up call after the Phoenix Mercury fell 75-68 to the New York Liberty. The veteran forward emphasized rebounding and attention to detail as the team’s losing streak reached five games.

The six-time WNBA All-Star, who scored 15 points and made eight assists, said, "Yeah, I mean this game is about the little things, you know, and the rebounds."

"The little things on the scout that we're trying to do. The game came down to the possession so, you just gotta keep chipping away at it."

She also mentioned how it was an improvement from the last time the two teams met, where the Liberty dominated the Mercury in the third quarter, ultimately winning the game 84-74.

"I think it was a step in the right direction," she said. "You know, last game, they kicked our b*** in the third quarter, and I think we responded well, yeah. We've just gotta finish games."

The Mercury haven't had the best start to the season early on, losing seven of the nine games that they have played so far. They are also on a five-game losing streak.

The last game they won was against the Chicago Sky, 91-83. Since then, they have lost to the Toronto Tempo, the Los Angeles Sparks, the Atlanta Dream, and now two straight losses to the Liberty.

Phoenix now turns its focus to snapping the streak against their next opponent.

Battle ahead for the Phoenix Mercury

The Mercury next face the Minnesota Lynx. The Lynx have a pretty great winning record so far, winning six out of the eight games they've played.

The last time the Mercury and the Lynx faced each other, the Lynx got the upper hand and defeated the Mercury 88-84 in a closely contested game.

Although Kahleah Copper scored a game-high 30 points, with Thomas also making eight assists, the Mercury couldn't stop a double-double from Natasha Howard.

Thomas is the star of the team and will play a crucial role in the next game, averaging 16.9 points, 7.8 rebounds, 8.1 assists, and 1.9 steals per game.

The Lynx are on a four-game winning streak and would like to grab more against a trembling Mercury. The Mercury, on the other hand, will look to avenge their loss in the previous game on Monday next week.

Will the Lynx be able to break their losing streak? Let us know in the comments.
