Aliyah Boston’s MVP Take Adds Fuel to Caitlin Clark-Kelsey Mitchell Debate

This season's MVP race has been quite interesting, with many top candidates still in the running for the honor. For Indiana Fever star Aliyah Boston, a teammate of hers should also be considered, who is not named Caitlin Clark.

On a recent episode of her "Post Moves" podcast, Boston discussed the MVP race with Candace Parker. The three-time WNBA champion and seven-time All-Star listed A'ja Wilson and Olivia Miles as her top finalists for the award. Boston quickly interjected and vouched for Fever star Kelsey Mitchell.

In addition, Boston raved about Mitchell while warming up at practice a few days later. She credited the veteran guard's leadership and work ethic.

“Honestly, [Mitchell is] really just the MVP. I think that’s just what she’s been doing. Every single night you see her come out, and she drops I don’t even know how many points at this rate. She defends her butt off... She does exactly what she needs to do, so I’m really proud of her," Boston said, per James Boyd.

While nobody really has any issue with Boston naming Mitchell as the MVP, her comments have, regardless, gone viral, mainly because she did not even include Clark in the discussion.

While some Clark fans believe Boston did not include her to get more engagement, she was just answering a simple question by praising her teammate and never once tried to stir up or diminish Clark's accomplishments this season.

However, this conversation has now led to a debate about who has been the Indiana Fever's MVP this season, Caitlin Clark or Kelsey Mitchell.

Caitlin Clark and Kelsey Mitchell's Statistics Compared

Clark has been on a roll this season, enjoying one of the best stretches in her career with averages of 21.7 points, 8.2 assists, 4.8 turnovers, with a field goal percentage of 44.3 and three-point proficiency of 36.1.

Meanwhile, Mitchell has been nothing short of a scoring machine, averaging 24.3 points, 2.7 assists, 1.8 turnovers, 50.9% from the field, and 44.5% from the three-point range.

Clearly, Mitchell has been the more prolific scorer between the two, averaging more points per game while shooting at a more efficient clip.

However, Clark has compensated for that by becoming one of the best creative playmakers of the season. This isn't surprising, as Clark has the higher usage rate and usually has the ball in her hands more than Mitchell (which is why Clark has many more turnovers).

If the MVP were to be decided between the two right now, it would be quite neck and neck, as both are quite deserving following their impact on the Fever.

After all, Fever fans should be happy this is even a debate, as Clark and Mitchell have formed one of the greatest backcourt duos in WNBA history this season and are on the way to the playoffs with more confidence and drive than ever.

So, which one of Caitlin Clark and Kelsey Mitchell deserves the Indiana Fever MVP moniker? Let us know in the comments.
