A'ja Wilson's current numbers might suggest another MVP win

There hasn't been a season in the last five years when Las Vegas Aces star A'ja Wilson hasn't been in the MVP conversation. After two back-to-back MVPs, the Aces star's numbers are backing her third consecutive win.

Wilson has won four MVPs, most by any player in WNBA history. She is also the only player in league history to win both MVP and the Defensive Player of the Year award twice in the same year.

This year she is in the midst of yet another elite performance on both ends of the floor. Wilson is averaging a league-high 25.6 points per game, according to WBB analyst @EJayArrow.

With her shooting 52.5% from the field, including a career-high 43.4% from the 3-point line, there's a solid chance she could be the MVP again.

However, chasing her closely in that competition are Kelsey Mitchell with 23.3 points per game and Breanna Stewart with 21.1 points per game, according to WBB analyst @EJayArrow.

Her dominance on the defensive glass is still intact. Wilson leads the league with 2.0 blocks and ranks 4th in the league with 9.6 rebounds per game. She is also averaging 1.5 steals per game, still elite considering how much she invests in defending the paint.

If the numbers are not enough, Wilson's impact simply puts her ahead of everyone. The Aces star has totaled a plus/minus of +193, third only behind Olivia Miles and Natasha Howard.

Being the best player on one of the best teams in the league helps Wilson's case too. The Aces have the third-best record (18-7) in the league, trailing the Minnesota Lynx (21-6) and the Golden State Valkyries (19-8).

What could stop A'ja Wilson's third consecutive MVP?

Mathematically, there is absolutely nothing that could stop A'ja Wilson from getting her fifth career MVP. She has the numbers, and she has her team winning. What could go wrong?

For starters, this is basketball; injuries in this sport are as unpredictable as anything can get. Wilson has been able to keep herself very healthy, and let's hope it doesn't become a factor or a reason she misses out on the award.

Voter fatigue is a big factor that has robbed a lot of basketball stars. LeBron James and Michael Jordan are the most fitting examples of voter fatigue.

Wilson will certainly win another award if there is no voter fatigue.

If the award is given today, Wilson is the clear winner. Olivia Miles, Caitlin Clark and Paige Bueckers are also in the race, but Wilson's numbers dwarf theirs in almost every category.
