It feels like A'ja Wilson is breaking records for fun in every single gameday, as the Seattle Storm had no answer for the Las Vegas Aces star in a 101-91 victory.
Wilson genuinely felt unguardable and showed no mercy in pummelling the Storm as she finished with a near triple-double of 34 points, 12 rebounds, and nine assists on top of three blocks.
With this stat line, Wilson also reached an incredible milestone. According to ESPN, the four-time MVP became the fastest player in league history to score 6,000 career points, doing it in just 278 games.
Wilson became the 19th player in league history to reach this milestone and also surpassed the previous record of 6,000 career points in 291 games, held by WNBA legend Diana Taurasi.
To reach this milestone, Wilson grabbed an offensive rebound with just over five minutes to play to secure a double-double, and she sank a jumper from the free-throw line at the other end.
She finished 10-of-19 from the field, while scoring the rest of her 11 points from the free throw line.
The Aces star is averaging all-around norms of 25.9 points, 9.6 rebounds, 3.3 assists, 1.1 steals, and 2.4 blocks. With the box score numbers like these, it would be fair to say that Wilson is once again the player to beat in the MVP race.
Thanks to Wilson's dominance, alongside Jackie Young's 29-point bomb, the Aces extend their record to 8-3 and are easily one of the favorites to lift the Commissioner's Cup this year.
Las Vegas Aces Take On Portland Fire in the Commissioner's Cup
With a comfortable 3-0 record as the only team alongside Cheryl Reeve's Minnesota Lynx in the Commissioner's Cup, the Aces look unstoppable early on in the season, as compared to last year, when they struggled until a late regular-season flourish.
The Commissioner's Cup is the perfect tournament to gain additional momentum for any team early on in the season, and the Aces will look forward to going 4-0 in the in-season tournament after facing the Portland Fire, who are still winless in three games.
In addition, Wilson is on a scoring run of her life, so it will be a tough hill to climb for the Fire from the start.
According to Opta STATS, Wilson has scored 20 or more points in ten consecutive league games, and it is her fifth career streak of at least eight 20-point games. No other player in WNBA history has more than three such streaks.
The Aces go on the road to the Moda Center to face Portland on Thursday night.
So, do you think it is a guaranteed win for the Aces, or does the Fire have something special in store for A'ja Wilson and Co.? Let us know in the comments.
