"A Slap in the Face": Angel Reese Unloads Over Dream Players' WNBA All-Star Starters Snub

The Atlanta Dream have been one of the strongest performers of this season, but surprisingly, not a single one of their players was included in this year's All-Star Game starters. And not surprisingly, Angel Reese had something to say about this snub.

Before the Dream added its fourth straight loss of the season against the Washington Mystics, Reese was asked how she felt being neglected by the fans, media, and the players in the voting.

While she was obviously unhappy, Reese felt even more offended that Allisha Gray and Rhyne Howard were not selected. “I expect to be disrespected,” Reese said, via ESPN’s Kareem Copeland.

“For those two though, I think they work so hard and they put a lot of work in, and the way that they’re guarded every game and they (have to) adjust. The reason why we’re where we are is because of those two. For us not to have anyone was just a slap in the face, but they’re not going to say anything. I am.” Reese added.

All-Star starters are decided through a combination of fan, media, and player voting. Fans account for 50% of the votes, while the media and players take a quarter each. With voting coming from three different ideologies, discrepancy is bound to happen.

Still, Allisha Gray has been an All-Star for each of the last three seasons, and Rhyne Howard has also played three All-Star games in her career.

Howard and Gray have been commanding the Dream's frontcourt even before Reese came along and are having solid individual seasons themselves, averaging 18.6 and 18.4 points per game, respectively.

Reese was not the only Dream representative to make her voice heard, as HC Karl Smesko was also not a big fan of the kind of treatment the Dream trio received.

Karl Smesko Feels the Dream Trio is Not Appreciated Enough

It was probably not the perfect time to ask coach Smesko about the All-Star voting results following the 81-76 loss to the Mystics. Smesko felt frustrated and issued a stern response.

“It's really disappointing, especially since we had three players who were so close to making it, and I felt they were deserving of being starters by the merit of their play,” said the second-year coach.

Apart from Reese, Howard, and Gray, Smesko also shouted out to Jordin Canada for the season she's having, but admitted it would be a tough ask to get her in with the amount of competition.

“The voting is half the fans, and we didn't get as much fan voting as we would like, and that kind of put us in a tough position to get anybody as a starter,” Smesko added.

The reserves will be announced on Tuesday, and we will very likely see the names of some Dream players. If not, expect some havoc created on social media.

So, do you think all members of the Dream trio should have been starters in the All-Star Game on July 25 in Chicago? Let us know in the comments.
